通称タンカースと呼ばれるこのジャケットは本来、機甲部隊の冬用戦闘服として開発されたものである。ヨーロッパ線戦では、冬期装備の不足により機甲部隊だけでなくフライトジャケットとしても使用されていたが、1943年に多用途の戦闘服であるＭ1943フィールドジャケットが採用され、ウィンターコンバットジャケットは限定採用となった。アウターシェルは耐水・耐風加工を施したコットンツイル。ライナーは26oz. ウールを使用し、脇や袖などは2本針で巻縫いされている。バックには両サイドにプリーツが付き、腕の動きを妨げないようにしている。このジャケットにはパッチポケットの初期型と片玉縁ポケットの後期型の2種類が存在する。

The winter combat jacket, which is commonly known as “Tankers”, was originally developed as part of the winter combat uniform for armored division. On the European front it was used not only by armored units, but also by pilots due to the shortage of winter equipment. In 1943, when the M1943 field jacket, a versatile was adopted, and the tankers jacket came into limited use. The cotton twill outer shell has water and wind resistant finish. The 26oz wool was used for the inner lining, and the sides and sleeves are sewn with double-needle lap seams. In addition, the back sides are pleated to ease movement of arms. The jacket comes in two type, one with patch pockets, which is generally considered as the earlier model, and the other with welt pockets.
