米陸軍は1942年に山岳地帯での使用を前提としたジャケットを開発・採用した。第2次大戦が勃発し、米軍が参戦するとイタリアの山岳地帯に兵員を派遣、現地の天候や地形を考慮した特別なジャケットや装備品を支給した。素材は比較的軽量で動きやすいコットンポプリンを使用し、背面の腰部分以外は総2枚仕立てという非常に贅沢な仕様。また、内側の肩と袖ぐりにはパイピング仕上げが施してあり、手間を惜しまない丁寧なディテールも見逃せない。防寒用のライニングは付属せず、気温の対応にはインナーにセーターなどを重ね着し、その前提からサイズは全体的に大きめなフォルムを持っている。腰のポケットはボタン留めで、フロントの胸に付いた容量を確保するマチの付いたポケットがあるが、フラップ裏にはジッパーが装備され、中に収納したものが落ち難いディテールとなっている。最大の特徴は背面に設置された容量の大きいカーゴポケットで、これはセーターや糧食などの装備を収納し、軽装で任務を遂行できるよう考案されたためであった。このポケットに重量物を収納すると、ジャケットが後方に引っ張られてしまうが、これを防止するため、内側には腕を通して背負うショルダーストラップが設けてある。ウエストには通常のトラウザースベルトよりも長めのベルトが付いており、これはフィット感と同時に、背中に収納した物を固定するための設計である。

The Army developed and adopted jackets for use in mountainous areas in 1942. When World War II broke out and the United States entered the war, they sent troops to mountainous areas in Italy and provided them with special jackets and equipment matching with the local weather and terrain. This item is made of relatively light and easy- to-move cotton poplin, and has a very luxurious design with all 2 layered fabrics except the waist part on the back. In addition, the inner shoulder and sleeve edges are finished with piping. Since it does not come with a thermal lining, it is worn with a sweater as an inner layer to cope with the cold temperature, and from that premise, it has a roomy form as a whole. The waist pocket is buttoned, and there is a pocket with gusset on the front chest to secure the capacity, and it has a pocket flap that can be opened and closed with a zipper, which is to prevent items stored inside from falling off. The most distinctive feature was the large cargo pocket on the back, which was designed to carry many equipment such as a sweater and foods, and to be able to carry out missions with light attire. In order to prevent the jacket from being pulled backward when a heavy object is stored in this back pocket, a shoulder strap is equipped inside, which is carried through the arm. The waistbelt is longer than the usual trousers belts for the case a wearer needs to hold things on the back tight with it.
