潜水艦の乗員用として採用された通称『サブマリナーコート』は、1941年に米海軍によって発行されたユニフォーム・レギュレーションに既に掲載されていた。上質なウールを用い、目の詰まった一重のヘリンボーン組織で織り上げられたコートは防寒性にも優れており、スタンドカラーと比較的大きめのチンストラップが特徴。フラップ付きのパッチポケットを２つだけ持つ外観は、無駄を極限まで削ぎ落とした洗練されたデザインを有している。このシンプルな外観はピーコートやデッキジャケットに通じるものがあり、米海軍のこだわりとプライドが見え隠れしている古き良き時代のコートである。

The “Submariner Coat” adopted for the submarine crew was already in the Uniform Regulations issued by the U.S. Navy in 1941. Made of finewool, the coat with single herringbone close weave provides excellent protection against the cold. It features a stand collar and a relatively large chin strap. With an exterior having only two flapped patch pockets, this coat has a refined design that has gotten rid of unnecessary elements as much us possible. The simple style resembles that of the pea coat and deck jacket. This coat from the good old times offers glimpses of the commitment and pride of the U.S. Navy.
