Following the end of World War II, aviation accessories underwent an overhaul with the arrival of jet aircraft. Flight jackets were no exception. The biggest change made to aviation accesories was the introduction of hard helmets that protect the pilot’s head from the aircraft’s vibrations. Such larger headgear encroached on the collar of flight jackets. To solve this issue, the B-15 series had “Modified”(MOD.) models with changes to the collar. This modification removed the mouton collar from the body and replaced it with a wool rib-knit collar. The collar could not be attached unless the body was once turnedinside out. Therefore, the rib-knit waist in the back was removed for this work. Traces can thus be found showingthat the collar and hem have been re-sewn. The modified versions are frequently found with the A,B,C, and D models of the B-15 series, which have a new white label attached certifying that the jackets have been officially and modified in order, this is erroneous; the modifications were made with the overhaul of aviation accessories in the latter half of the 1950s.
