A-2のコントラクターでも生産性のある工場背景を持っていたラフウェア社。計5回の納入を果たした同社のこのモデルは1942年契約の3番目にあたる。米陸軍航空隊は1942年の途中から“プロパティー・エアフォース”の表記を義務付けしたため、2枚のラベルを重ねて縫い付ける、所謂2段ラベルが特徴である。また、台襟の付いた大型の襟などラフウェア社らしい迫力のあるフォルムを持っている。このジャケットに使用している革は、イタリア産の原皮を樹皮から抽出したタンニン槽に漬け置きし、濃度を変えながらゆっくりと時間を懸けて鞣された後、職人の手によってシールブラウンのアニリン染料が擦り込まれている。多少の色むらがあるのは手作業ならではの証であり、革の愛好家からも好まれる仕上げである。アニリン染料で仕上げた革は、ラッカー仕上げと比較すると色に透明感があるので、使用感や経年変化で革自体に表情が出易いのが特徴でもある。渋液と染料が革の奥底に宿るこのジャケットは、表皮が艶膜に覆われるまで着倒したい。

The Type A-2 jacket is synonymous with the well-known contractor Rough Wear. It had five contracts for the A-2, and this model is the third contract from 1942. In mid1942, the U.S. Army Air Forces mandated the attachment of the “Property Air Force U.S. Army” label. Thus, it features two-level labels with one sewn below the other. It has an impressive form unique to Rough Wear, including a large collar with a stand. The leather used for this jacket is Italian rawhide tanned slowly over time by soaking it in a basin with tannin extracted from tree barks, while altering the extract concentration. After tanning it carefully, craftsmen hand-rub seal brown aniline dye into the leather. The leather has some color spotting, a proof that the coloring was done by hand. The resulting finish is one preferred by leather fans. Aniline leather has a translucent color compared to a lacquer finish, making it easier for the leather to show wear and passage of time. With astringent liquid and dyes penetrated deep into the leather, you want to wear this jacket until the outer layer takes on a lustrous look.
