1927年に制定されたA-1は、A-2が採用される1931年まで生産された夏季用のフライトジャケットである。ジッパーが実用化される前のデザインのためフロントはボタン式となっている。また、A-1にはシープスキンが用いられており、柔軟で動きやすい反面、ホースハイドやステアハイドと比較すると強度面でやや劣るため、現存しているのは極僅かである。このA-1にはシープスキンに比べ強度を備えたホースハイドを採用している。フルベジタブルタンニングの工程を経たホースハイドを、熟練した職人が1枚1枚に手作業で染料を刷り込んでいるため革には特有の色むらがあり、使用によって格別の風合いを醸し出すであろう革の表情に仕上がっている。着用によって擦れや皺が刻まれ、仕上げの色むらと重なり合った時、ホースハイドのジャケットは何ものにも代え難い表情になっている筈だ。

The Type A-1 jacket was standardized for use in 1927 and was produced as a summer f light jacket until the Type A-2 jacket was adopted in 1931. As the zipper had not yet come into use, the front has a button-style design. A-1s were made of sheepskin, which were flexible and made them easy to move around in. On the other hand, sheepskin was slightly inferior in durability compared to horsehide and steerhide, and therefore, very few original A-1s can be found today. This A-1 uses horsehide that is more durable than sheepskin. Skilled craftsmen have hand-applied dyes to each fully vegetable tanned horsehide, giving the leather unique color spotting that will look exceptional with use. As a result of the scratches and creases that develop with wear, combined with the color spotting finish, this horsehide jacket will certainly take on a look that no other jacket can match or replace.
