AERO MEDICAL LABORATORY（航空医学研究所）は、パイロットが任務をより効率良く機能的に遂行出来ることを目的として常に研究が進められている。ある一定の期間に限定したパイロット達を対象に改良の余地があるかどうかなどのアンケートを取り、その意見を分析し要望を統合して試作品が作られていった。試作品には“テストサンプル”のラベルが縫い付けられ、アンケートに答えたパイロットに支給される。彼らはそれを試用した後、与えられた用紙に再び意見を記入し航空医学研究所に返却する。その返却されたサンプルを分析することで、正式にスペックが制定されるのである。開発は常に急務であることと正式なスペック前という状況から、後の官給品と比較すると相違点が多々見受けられることがあり、微妙な型の違いやディテールの違い、時には使用されている素材がまるで違うものまで存在している。

To make pilots fulfill mission with well efficiency and functionally, the Aero Medical Laboratory (AML) works on the research for their equipment. AML surveys on necessity of jacket’s improvement by questioning the picked-up soldiers during a specific period of time, and complete prototype jackets according to requests from the soldiers. The label of “Test Sample” is attached on prototype jackets, they are supplied to the soldiers who join in survey. After the soldiers test the jackets for a while, they return the jackets to AML with the comments. AML then analyzes the returned jackets and finalizes the specifications officially. Therefore, “Test Sample” jackets usually have some different point from officially-supplied jackets in shape, color, detail, material and so on.
