米空軍は1960年代に士官候補生の冬季用として、防寒性の高いスポーツジャケットを採用した。第4士官候補のパッチデザインは当時のクラス員によって考案され、中央のフラッシュデザイン（爆発）は、力強さと支配力を表している。ジャケットに付いた年号は卒業年度を表しており、これは一般的なアワードジャケットにも見られるルールであり、アメリカの伝統でもある。

During the 1960s, the U.S. Air Force adopted the winter sports jacket to supply their cadets. The patch of the 4th cadets was designed by the member. The explosive image in the center of the patch depict s forcefulness and power of domination. The number “68” is to represent the year of graduation, which is a rule and American tradition that are commonly seen in many of US award jackets.
