米海軍の甲板作業用ジャケットN-1の後継モデルとしてこのA-2デッキジャケットが採用された。前モデルのN-1と比較するとその色味や使用素材に変化が見られ、表地はコットングログランからバックサテン地に、裏地はアルパカウールからナイロンボアへと変更されており、生産性とコスト面を見直した結果であった。仕様については、釦とジッパーで開閉するフロントの比翼仕立てと袖口に内蔵されたリブなど基本的なディテールはN-1を継承しているが、襟の変更と胸ポケット、裾のアジャスターが追加されている。シンプルな外観と必要最低限の機能性を兼ね備えたこのデッキA-2は、米海軍らしいユーティリティージャケットである。

This A-2 deck jacket was adopted as a successor model of the N-1 jacket for the U.S. Navy’s deck work. Compared to the previous N-1 model, this jacket has a different coloring and materials. As a result of reviewing productivity and cost, the outer material was changed from cotton grosgrain to back satin, while the lining was changed from alpaca wool to nylon fur. With regard to specifications, the A-2 deck jacket succeeds the basic details of the N-1, such as the button and zipper closure for the fly front and rib-knitting inside the cuffs. However, the A-2 deck jacket made changes to the collar and added a breast pocket and hem adjuster. Having a simple look and minimum essential functions, the A-2 deck jacket is a utility jacket typical of the U.S. Navy.
